Many of the challenges students tackle through competition closely align with the work being done across Oshkosh — from designing complex vehicles and integrating advanced technologies to solving manufacturing and operational challenges. 

Along the way, they build valuable skills in collaboration, problem-solving and technical communication while gaining insight into careers in advanced manufacturing and vehicle technology.

Through collaborative projects and technical competitions, students apply engineering concepts in practical settings while building skills that prepare them for future careers.

SAE CDS competitions immerse participants in the full design-build-test process, with exposure to vehicle systems, manufacturing, software integration and performance optimization. These experiences highlight how engineering principles are used across industries Oshkosh serves including mobility, defense, construction and specialty vehicles.

Students also strengthen critical workplace skills such as teamwork, adaptability and communication while developing the creativity and resilience needed in today’s engineering environments.

SAE programs challenge students to solve complex problems in fast-paced, team-oriented environments. By working with advanced technologies and managing projects from concept to completion, students gain valuable insight into modern engineering and manufacturing.
