City of Madison, Wisconsin receives first Pierce Volterra pumper

The new Pierce Volterra Pumper has been placed with the City of Madison Fire Department in Wisconsin, making this the first electric fire truck in service in North America. The Pierce Volterra Pumper will help the city of Madison meet their environmental initiatives, reduce carbon emissions, support a lower total cost of ownership and increase performance for first responders. 

This new battery electric fire truck has a patented parallel-electric drivetrain with an electro-mechanical infinitely variable transmission allowing for zero-emission operation when powered by the integrated onboard batteries. It can be coupled to the internal combustion engine for continuous power to the pumping or drive systems and is equipped with a battery pack that recharges using on-site recharging infrastructure.  

The Volterra Platform of Vehicles was designed through close collaboration with our fire department partners to provide all the safety, functionality and performance needed by first responders while also helping protect the planet we all call home. 

USPS Next Generation Delivery Vehicle fleet

Oshkosh Defense has been chosen to provide the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV). Over the next 10 years we will build and deliver between 50,000 and 165,000 zero emission battery electric and low emission internal combustion engine vehicles at up to 100% of either option.

Zero emission battery electric vehicles for USPS

We applied our decades of experience in electric drives and electric vehicle technology to the development of both battery electric and fuel efficient, low emission internal combustion engine vehicles for the USPS. Today, we leverage our experience from across our Oshkosh businesses to effectively manage and deliver large, complex programs like the USPS vehicle program. This includes support throughout the lifecycle of the product.

This vehicle, designed by Oshkosh engineers and based on parameters provided by the USPS, was designed from the ground up specifically for the needs of the carrier. It includes a 360-degree camera, collision sensors, an automatic braking system, a walk-in cargo area, larger windshield for increased visibility, air conditioning and is telematics compatible allowing for access to real-time insights on the vehicle and its operating efficiency.

Electric front discharge concrete placement vehicle

Our battery powered, fully electric front discharge concrete placement prototype vehicle is powered by lithium-ion batteries and designed to reduce total cost of ownership. The commercial duty battery is designed to last at least 10 years, providing energy savings, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering vehicle noise to enhance job site safety.

JLG DaVinci™ all-electric scissor lift

The DaVinci lift is an innovative all-electric scissor that produces zero emissions. With zero hydraulics, the DaVinci lift eliminates hydraulic leaks and reduces required maintenance helping to deliver a lower total cost of ownership. It’s powered by a single lithium-ion battery. The DaVinci lift is the first scissor in the industry to recover energy as it descends, delivering a 70% decrease in power consumption.
