Electric Vehicles

We’re constantly innovating new ways to challenge the limits of possibility and better serve the world we live in. Our electrification efforts are the direct result of that commitment. We have a long and successful history of developing fully electric and hybrid vehicles across a wide variety of industries, inventing new technologies that reduce energy consumption and emissions, lower total cost of ownership and increase performance.

Electric Vehicle platforms

No matter the operating environment, flexibility is crucial. We apply decades of experience in electric drives and vehicles to the development of both battery electric and fuel efficient, low-emission internal combustion engine vehicles across numerous brands and product lines. Many of our innovative product platforms can accommodate both electric and internal combustion engines, allowing for unmatched flexibility and efficiency in the field.

McNeilus® Volterra™ ZSL™ electric refuse collection vehicle

The McNeilus® Volterra™ ZSL™ electric refuse collection vehicle is a first-of-its-kind product in North America that was designed from the ground up with both customers and users in mind.

We leaned into our heritage as a purpose-built, heavy-duty truck manufacturer, as well as our electrification expertise to develop this new integrated, EV solution. Our electrified refuse collector delivers progressive technologies to the refuse industry and will advance sustainability initiatives in communities around the world. It features a sophisticated drivetrain that includes advanced lithium-ion batteries and a revolutionary electric-axle system. The vehicle will enable a full day’s refuse collection on a single charge with zero emissions.

USPS Next Generation Delivery Vehicle fleet

After decades of supporting the U.S. military with mission-critical vehicles and delivering on large complex programs with full product lifecycle support, Oshkosh Defense was chosen to provide the U.S. Postal Service Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV).

The vehicle—designed by Oshkosh engineers and key suppliers to meet the requirements provided by the USPS—was customized specifically for the needs of mail carriers. It includes safety features designed to help ensure carriers can complete every job successfully, including a walk-in cargo area, larger windshields, a 360-degree camera and collision sensors. We are currently utilizing a telematics solution that provides real-time insights on vehicle operation and efficiency. And the vehicle platform can accommodate both internal combustion and battery-electric engines. Over the next ten years, we will build and deliver between 50,000 and 165,000 battery electric and low emission internal combustion engine vehicles with 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive, depending on the Postal Service’s requirements.

First zero-emissions electric fire and emergency vehicles

Demand for zero-emission Electric Vehicles is rising. At Oshkosh Corporation, we are developing products that reduce emissions and minimize fuel while providing firefighters what they need to do their job safely every day. Our Electric Vehicles are designed with our end users in mind to help create a more sustainable future for communities around the world. The Volterra™ Platform of Electric Vehicles continue our long and successful history of electrification across a broad spectrum of products.

Pierce® Volterra™ Electric Pumper

The Volterra Platform of Electric Vehicles was designed through close collaboration with our fire department partners to provide all the safety, functionality and performance needed by first responders while also helping protect the planet we all call home.

The Pierce Volterra Pumper, placed with the City of Madison Fire Department in Wisconsin, is the first electric fire truck in service in North America. The battery electric fire truck has a patented parallel-electric drivetrain with an electro-mechanical infinitely variable transmission allowing for zero-emission operation when powered by the integrated onboard batteries. It can be coupled to the internal combustion engine for continuous power to the pumping or drive systems and is equipped with a battery pack that recharges using on-site recharging infrastructure.

Pierce and Oshkosh Striker Volterra Platform of Electric Vehicles

Striker® Volterra™ Electric Vehicle

The Striker Volterra technology is backed by decades of technology and innovation developed by Oshkosh Corporation. The Oshkosh Airport Products Striker Volterra electric ARFF is engineered to channel mechanical power and battery power to maximize driving and pumping performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This vehicle uses leading Oshkosh Corporation technology including an Oshkosh patented electric drivetrain that allows for zero-emissions operation when powered by batteries. The Striker Volterra is capable of achieving 28% improved acceleration when fully loaded, resulting in a quickened response time to get the job done safer and quicker.

Battery Electric Vehicles

The electrification of commercial fleets is no longer just a vision. At Oshkosh Corporation, we’re developing advanced, fully Electric Vehicles to serve a wide variety of industries—vehicles just as capable of fulfilling their mission as their internal combustion counterparts. Beyond reducing energy consumption and emissions, our suite of battery electric technologies can lower total cost of ownership and increase vehicle performance.

ELECTRIC FRONT DISCHARGE
CONCRETE PLACEMENT
VEHICLE

Our fully electric front discharge concrete placement prototype vehicle is proof that even the toughest trucks can be enhanced with electrification. Powered by a commercial duty lithium-ion battery with at least a ten-year lifespan, the vehicle provides energy savings, significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle noise, and lowers total cost of ownership for the vehicle. The vehicle performs similarly to a conventional chassis, enabling fleetwide operational savings and environmentally friendly performance.

Environmentally friendly innovation

Electric Vehicles and equipment play a critical role in our vision for a more sustainable future. We’ve been developing electric drives and vehicles for more than 25 years, constantly exploring new ways to minimize environmental impact while maximizing performance. The end result is advanced technology that’s good for the environment and good for our customers.

JLG DAVINCI™ ALL-ELECTRIC SCISSOR LIFT

The DaVinci lift is an innovative, all-electric scissor that’s as good for the planet as it is for the job site. Powered by a single lithium-ion battery, the DaVinci produces zero emissions and includes no hydraulics, eliminating the possibility of hydraulic leaks, reducing required maintenance and lowering the total cost of ownership for the customer. Smart phone enabled diagnostics monitors machine health and its fast-charging battery has an expected lifespan as long as that of the lift itself, limiting the likelihood of replacement and improving overall productivity over the course of its projected ten-year lifetime.
